Abstract:
Swami Vivekananda emphasized the spread of education among all sections of society, irrespective of gender, wealth, or social status. His educational philosophy was rooted in India's philosophical and spiritual traditions. He was a strong advocate of national self-respect and opposed the blind imitation of Western culture. While he encouraged India to adopt Western science and a progressive outlook, he simultaneously stressed the importance of preserving the ancient ideals of Brahmacharya (self-discipline) and spirituality as essential components of education.
While designing curricula for young men and women, Vivekananda gave special importance to the development of courage, self-confidence, concentration, detachment, and high moral character. He advised teachers to regard education not merely as a profession but as a mission dedicated to the service of humanity and nation-building. Throughout his educational vision, he maintained a balanced and harmonious perspective that sought to integrate the best elements of both tradition and modernity.
